The bathroom is one of the most wasteful places in the home. Here are five simple swaps you can tackle in one day!
1. Toothbrush:
Every plastic toothbrush ever created still exists. Instead of a plastic toothbrush, why not switch to one made from bamboo?
Once the toothbrush needs to be changed after four months, you can compost the bamboo handle or use it as kindling in a campfire.
2. Toilet Paper:
Did you know we flush 27,000 trees down the toilet every day!?
That's a lot of trees. A few things you can do is switch to a tree-free TP made from sustainable growth like bamboo or switch to 100% recycled paper.
If you want to go even further, you can install a bidet attachment on your toilet. Bidet attachments spray clean water to wash your bum after your business.
Then you can use toilet paper just to pat dry. It's much cleaner and saves a whole bunch of trees!
3. Bucket:
Keep a bucket in your shower! Catch all of the cold water while you're waiting for the shower to warm up. You can use the bucket of clean water to water your plants or flush the toilet.
4. Recycle:
Are you recycling or composting your toilet paper cores? What about your shampoo and soap bottle? Rinse the bottles out when you're in the shower and make sure to put them in the recycling.
Also, you can sign up for Terracycle. Several bathroom products like Colgate and Tom's of Maine can be sent back and recycled.
5. One for One Rule:
For me bathroom products can tend to pile up. I get really excited when one of my favorite companies releases a new face mask or moisturizer. I buy it and start using it.
The old one I had just sits there collecting dust. This cycles continues over and over again. I've implemented a one for one rule. I can't buy another moisturizer or face mask until I've finished the one I already have!
This not only saves me a lot of money, it also helps to cut back on my waste.
