Extreme temperatures are the enemy of technology. 1. Turn Off Your Phone — The first step to cooling down your phone is to turn it off. Keeping your phone running will keep it warmer than it needs to be because it’ll take up processing power to stay on. When the phone is already hot or overheated in the summer heat, the last thing you want is a phone that’s running on all cylinders.
2. Keep It Away from Sunlight — After turning off your phone, make sure you keep it away from any direct sunlight. If you’re outside this summer, like at the beach or by the pool, you can lay a towel over your phone to cover it from the sun. Go indoors if you can so both you and the phone can cool down with the AC on full blast.
3. Take Your Phone Out of the Case — Learn how to take off a phone case the safe and easy way here. Make sure to wash and dry your hands before you take the case off. Pop off the case at the top right corner and then peel off the rest of the case. Now that your case is off your phone, you can allow your phone to cool down without that extra layer of protection. 4. Remove the Charging Cable — If your phone happens to overheat indoors, remove the charging cable from your phone as well. There’s no need to power up a phone that’s overheating. If your phone is attached to one of those portable rechargeable batteries, remove that as well.
5. Blow Cool Air Across Your Phone — To help speed along the cool down process, blow cool air across your phone. Keep it near the air conditioner. It can be the AC in your car, your home or the resort hotel you’re staying at. Hold your phone as far away as possible from any heat sources to keep your phone cool.
6. Take Phone Breaks — Prevent your phone from overheating before it even happens by taking periodic phone breaks. If you notice you’ve been scrolling mindlessly through your phone for the past half hour, take a break. It’s good for your eyes. It’s also good for your phone to take a break. 7. Avoid Charging While Streaming — We know you want to post all the selfies and videos when you’re on your summer vacation. That being said, you want to avoid charging your phone while posting your livestream of you on the beach. Believe it or not, that will actually use up more of your phone’s processing power and you’re more likely to overheat your phone. Don’t charge your phone while streaming. Either stream without your phone plugged in or keep it plugged in and leave your phone alone.
